Monsoon imminent in Kerala

Amid spells of pre-monsoon showers across Kerala, the regional reteorological department has said that the south-west monsoon may arrive in the state within the next 48 hours.

“Conditions are favourable for the onset of SW monsoon over Kerala during the next 48 hours,” it said in its daily bulletin.It also predicted heavy rainfall in the excess of 7 cm at isolated places in the state over the next two days.

Spells of pre-monsoon showers continued in the state on Tuesday, with parts of northern districts recording heavy rainfall.
Against the backdrop of predictions of strong winds along the coast on Wednesday, weathermen have advised fishermen to avoid venturing out to sea.

On Tuesday, heavy rainfall was recorded in Thrithala in Palakkad district and Tavanur in Malappuram district (11 cm each), Kodungallur in Thrissur district (10 cm) and Cheruthazham in Kannur district (7 cm).
