Last Updated 16 June 2015, 19:01 IST

Rains lashed parts of Ernakulam district since Monday noon even as the south-west monsoon remained sluggish in the state.

Two Meteorological Department stations in the district – Kochi airport and Piravom – recorded heavy rainfall, at 7 cm. Ernakulam South and Kunnamkulam in Thrissur district recorded a rainfall of 6 cm each.

Parts of Kottayam, Malappuram, Palakkad, Idukki and Alappuzha districts also received moderate rains since noon on Monday.

The Meteorological Centre in Thiruvananthapuram said in a daily bulletin that isolated places in the state would receive heavy rains from Friday morning and continue through the weekend.

The state has, during the first 10 days of the month, received rainfall that is 56 per cent less than the long period average for the period.

The south-west monsoon had hit Kerala on June 5, six days after its original date of scheduled onset.
