More rain as cyclone looms over Kerala

With a cyclone forming near Lakshadweep, reports state that Kerala could receive more rain in the coming days.

Heavy rain is predicted in Kerala, coastal Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra till October 8.

Skymet Weather reports had earlier stated that a cyclonic circulation is present over the southeast Arabian Sea. It is most likely to induce low-pressure area by October 5 and subsequently turn into a deep depression and even into a tropical storm.

Very heavy rain is expected in Idukki and Malappuram districts and a red alert has been sounded. An orange alert has been issued for Pathanamthitta district where the Sabarimala Temple is located.

Also, one gate of the Idukki dam is expected to be opened anytime now.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the Arabian Sea. Fishermen in deep-sea areas have been advised to return.

Heavy rain led to landslides and floods in Kerala in August, claiming over 300 lives.
