Muslim clerics have urged the Election Commission (EC) to change the date of polling in the view of the approaching Ramzan.
Senior Sunni cleric and All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) member Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangimahali said that Ramzan, during which Muslim observe fast, was likely to begin from May six.
"Votes will also be cast on May six in some parts of the country... It will be difficult for the Muslims to come out and vote on that day," he said.
The cleric urged the EC to change the date.
"The EC should have taken into consideration the factor," he added.
