Narada case: CBI books 13 TMC leaders including MPs, ministers

In more trouble for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the CBI on Monday booked 13 MPs and West Bengal Ministers belonging to Trinamool Congress on charges of corruption in the controversial Narada sting case.
 
The leaders were purportedly seen taking money for favours ahead of West Bengal Assembly elections in the video sting carried out by web portal Narada News.
 
The case of criminal conspiracy and corruption has been filed against Rajya Sabha MP Mukul Roy, Lok Sabha MPs Sultan Ahmed, Saugata Roy, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Aparupa Poddar. The others named in the FIR are Madan Mitra, Iqbal Ahmed, Prasun Banerjee, Subhendu Adhikari, Sovan Chatterjee, Subrata Mukherjee, Syed Hussain Meera and Firhad Hakim.
 
A regular case was registered after the completion of preliminary enquiry (PE) by the agency. The PE was registered on directions of Calcutta High Court.

The Trinamool Congress had approached the Supreme Court but it did not get any relief following which the CBI went ahead with its investigations.
 
Banerjee had claimed that the sting operation was done to malign the image of the party ahead of the Assembly polls in 2016.
 
A number of her party leaders, including MPs and MLAs, are facing CBI probe in the Saradha scam. Some of the MPs like Sudip Bandhaopadhyay and Kunal Ghosh are in jail in connection with Saradha scam.
