Amit Shah to address poll rally in Udhampur

With campaigning frenzy rising among political parties, Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) national president Amit Shah is scheduled to address a poll rally in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday evening.

Shah, who will be campaigning for Jitendra Singh, BJP nominee for Kathua-Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat, is scheduled to address the workers of the three constituencies of the town-Chenani-Ghordi, Ramnagar and Udhampur.

BJP State General Secretary, Narinder Singh said that Shah will reach Jammu airport at around 1:30 pm and will head directly to rally venue at Subash Stadium. “We’re expecting participation of around 20,000 people,” he said.

On March 28, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had addressed a similar rally in Jammu. Modi is scheduled to address another rally in Kathua town on April 9 while Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will address a poll rally in hilly Doda district on April 8.

Confronted with anti-incumbency in Jammu, the state BJP leadership is optimistic that rallies addressed by high profile leaders will create a wave in favour of the party. In 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP had won both the seats of the Jammu region and lone parliamentary seat of Ladakh.

The BJP is contesting on all six seats of J&K and has not entered into an alliance with its former coalition partner, People’s Conference led by separatist-turned-mainstream leader Sajjad Lone. The People’s Conference has already announced the candidates for three seats in the Valley.
