Cong targets Shah as BJP goes after Vadra

Under attack from the BJP over the business dealings on Robert Vadra, the Congress on Wednesday hit back by raising the “exponential rise” in the business turnover of Jay Shah, the son of BJP President Amit Shah.

Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi claimed that Vadra's business dealing were “above board” and the Income Tax Department had even accepted the income tax returns filed by Vadra's Skylight Hospitality firm.

Chaturvedi accused the I-T Department of acting under the pressure of the BJP leadership to reopen the cases against Vadra only after the Modi government faced opposition heat over the fleeting of businessmen Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi, Vijay Mallya and Mehul Choksi.

“Will BJP president Amit Shah tweet about the 'Shah-jyaada' model? Will Amit Shah tweet about how Rs 750 crore were deposited in the Ahmedabad District Cooperative Bank within four days of demonestisation,” Chaturvedi, the convenor of the AICC Communications Department, said.

She also wondered whether the BJP president would explain how the Modi government facilitated international travel documents for Lalit Modi or liquor baron Mallya was allowed to flee the country.

Reports had it that the Income Tax Department had slapped a notice against Vadra's firm asking him to pay Rs 25.8 crore as tax liability for the assessment year 2010-11.
