Last Updated 29 June 2018, 14:10 IST

Congress may have sought to put the Centre in the dock over the recent CBSE paper leak but it was left red-faced after the exam paper for selection of its Uttar Pradesh unit spokesmen got leaked before the test.

Not only was the paper that contained questions pertaining to the state leaked but many of the aspirants, apparently finding the questions tough, tried to resort to cheating to write the correct answers.

Congress had organised an exam for selection of state party spokesmen here on Thursday. Priyanka Chaturvedi, the national spokesperson of the party, was here to hold the test.

According to sources in the state Congress, the paper was leaked before the test and was available on social media.

A few aspirants tried to take help of the Internet to find the correct answers.

UP Congress president Raj Babbar later clarified that the test was intended to keep the spokesmen abreast with the changing political scenario. ''It was not to humiliate or reject anyone,'' he said on Friday.

Sources said that the party had earlier held similar tests in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
