Last Updated 09 March 2021, 14:26 IST

As the CPI announced candidates for 21 constituencies in the Assembly polls in Kerala, only one of the four ministers of the party are in the fray.

Many senior MLAs of the party are also out of the list as the party strictly enforced a maximum of two-term norm for MLAs. Revenue Minister E Chandrasekharan, who represents Kanhangad in Kasargod, is the lone CPI minister in among the candidates.

The CPM that contested in 27 seats in the 2016 Assembly elections had won in 19 seats. Now the CPI will be contesting in 25 seats as two seats have to be spared for Kerala Congress (Mani), which is a new entrant to the Left Democratic Front.
