The Supreme Court is to consider on Tuesday a plea against the arrest of a BJP youth wing leader for making a meme on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

A bench of Justices Indira Banerjee and Sanjiv Khanna agreed to hear a writ petition filed by arrested leader Priyanka Shama's brother Rajib Sharma.

Senior advocate Neeraj Kishan Kaul, appearing for Sharma, contended the 26-year-old woman leader was arrested for her Facebook post.

There was a strike in the courts in the state, leaving her with no option but to approach the top court, Kaul said. Rajib has filed a writ petition.

Priyanka was arrested on Friday for posting on her Facebook a photo in which Mamata Banerjee's face was photoshopped on the form of actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas at MET Gala in New York.

A Trinamool leader, Bhibas Hazra filed a complaint against her with Howrah police cyber cell, invoking various provisions of the Information Technology Act.

She was lodged at Alipore Women Correctional home after having been remanded to 14-days judicial custody by a judicial magistrate.
