No plan of Modi contesting from Bengal: Shah

Last Updated 22 April 2019, 08:53 IST

Refuting speculations that apart from Varanasi Prime Minister Narendra Modi may also contest from a seat in West Bengal BJP president Amit Shah on Monday said that there is no such plan so far.

"There is no such plan so far, " said Shah. He was addressing a media conference in Kolkata. The development comes days after senior State BJP leader Mukul Roy says that the state unit has urged the Prime Minister to contest from any of the Lok Sabha seats in Bengal.

Shah also defended BJP's decision of fielding Sadhvi Pragya as a party candidate arguing that a false case was slapped on her.

"As far as Sadhvi Pragya is concerned a false case was slapped on her in the name of Hindu terrorism. It was an attempt to malign Indian culture in the world, " said Shah.

The BJP president further alleged that the real accused of the Malegaon blast was set free after being arrested.

Targeting West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress ( TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee Shah said that she should first make her stand clear over National Conference leader Omar Abdullah's comment that Kashmir should have a separate Prime Minister and Congress' poll promise of doing away with Sedition law.

Shah also vowed to oust TMC in Bengal. Accusing the party in the state of subverting democracy he said that BJP is especially focusing on Bengal as it wants to restore democracy in the state.

"We have a special focus on Bengal because we want to restore democracy here, do justice to Bangladeshi refugees and throw out Bangladeshi infiltrators, " said Shah.

As for the chit fund scam, Shah alleged that the state police have destroyed all evidence and the Chief Minister never wanted it to be investigated.

He also said that after the TMC is ousted from power in Bengal all the accused of the chit fund scam will be brought to justice.

"The chit fund scam took place in Bengal and the local police destroyed all evidence. Mamata didi does not want investigation into the chit fund scam. After her government is gone we will ensure that all the accused in the chit fund case get punished," said Shah.
