Poll-O-Meter: A big, fat number

In 1956, India had 19,36,46,069 voters enrolled, which was about 50.4% of the total population.

About 98.8% of the adult population was enrolled as voters.

In 1952 polls, 17,32,13,635 exercised their franchise, the number represented 96% of the adult population.

The expenditure incurred for the preparation and cost of preparation and revision of electoral rolls between 1952 and 1957 was around Rs 5,99,55,719.
