Gujarat BJP complained to Election Commission in 1983 that those who infiltrated into Kutch district from Pakistan were likely to get enrolled in the voter list.
Gujarat Chief Electoral Officer allayed any such fears saying that there was no abnormal enrollment in comparison to other districts.
The number of voters in Kutch in 1979 was 5,06,871. When the voter list was published in November 1983, it showed just a normal 10% rise in the number of voters at 5,57,561.
