Poll-O-Meter: How Cong got the hand

Last Updated 10 April 2019, 08:13 IST

One may associate the ‘Hand’ symbol to the Congress.

But in the first general elections, the symbol was allotted to the All India Forward Bloc (Ruikar Group), a national party then.

The Congress got ‘Two bullocks with a yoke on’. It was only in the 1977 elections that the Congress got the ‘Hand’ symbol and that too after a split.

In 1962 polls, the symbol was allotted to the Akali Dal.
