Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday played down Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi's rally through river Ganga highlighting his achievements as a Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation.

He said because of his works, Priyanka's rally was possible and she could drink water from Ganga.

"If I had not made Allahabad-Varanasi waterway, how could she (Priyanaka Gandhi Vadra) have travelled? She also drank Ganga water, could she have done the same under the UPA govt? By March 2020, river Ganga will be 100 per cent clean," said Gadkari as quoted by ANI.

Priyanka Gandhi took a boat ride from Prayagraj (old Allahabad) to Varanasi for the election campaign in eastern Uttar Pradesh where she is the Congress in-charge.

Nitin Gadkari had proved to be most successful minister in the Modi cabinet. He was appreciated by leaders across party lines for his good work in the road and highway infrastructure sector.

In the upcoming elections, Gadkari is seeking a second chance from Nagpur Lok Sabha constituency.
