'Will keep 'telescopic view' on Rahul's poll affidavit'

The BJP on Sunday said that it will keep a "telescopic view" on the election affidavit to be filed by Congress president Rahul Gandhi, alleging that he has amassed “huge” wealth and assets through various “dubious deals” but kept them “hidden” so far.

Addressing a press conference, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said that Rahul's income rose from over Rs 55 lakh in 2004 to Rs 9 crore in 2014 as per his election affidavits.

“Rahul is not a professional like a doctor or an engineer. Whatever earning he has, it's because of him being a Member of Parliament (MP). How can an MP's income rise in such a manner. There has to be some accountability," he told reporters.

Patra alleged that the rise in Rahul's income "by and large” is from “profiteering in scams, dubious land deals" but the Congress leader has managed to “hide the facts” in his poll affidavits filed earlier.

“The people of the country and the BJP, in particular, will keep a telescopic view on the nominations and poll affidavit to be filed by Rahul,” Patra said.

The BJP also targeted Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, saying Rahul and Priyanka had a 4.69-acre farmhouse in Delhi.

This farmhouse was rented out to a firm which had been issued a show-cause notice for violation of rules and alleged financial irregularities, he said.

“We will hold a series of press conferences in the coming days to expose the corruption of Rahul Gandhi,” he added.
