The Union health ministry has cleared two new health warning images that every tobacco manufacturers will have to print on the cigarette and other tobacco packets from September 2018 onward.

The first set of images will be valid for 12 months once they are being used from September 1, 2018. The second set will come into effect after the manufacturers stop using the first one. It would also be used for 12 months.

The new images have been notified under the provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003, the Union Health Ministry says in a statement.

The two images were notified by the health ministry in April and they would come into effect from September 1, 2018, says the statement.
