NIA team, Kerala, AP cops inspect blast site

Last Updated 02 August 2016, 20:18 IST

A day after a low-intensity blast occurred at the court complex in the city, sleuths from the National Investigation Agency and police officers from Kerala, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh inspected the site on Tuesday evening.

The teams from outside Karnataka visited the spot, as similar explosions had been reported in a court at Kollam in Kerala on July 14, and at a Chittoor court in Andhra Pradesh on April 8.

Similar blasts on courts premises have been reported in some more places across
the country in the past six months.

Director General of Police (Internal Security) Neelamani P Raju and Mysuru Police Commissioner B Dayananda also visited the spot, while a bomb squad and a dog squad from Bengaluru were involved in the investigation at the court complex.

Sources said copper wires, steel splinters and other materials were found near the blast site. “On primary observation, it looks like professionals are involved in planting the explosive,” said sources.

Security has been beefed up at the court complex as well as in other important places, including the railway station, bus stands, the palace and the zoo, as a precautionary measure. Vehicles are being checked at checkposts, said the sources.

Protest
Members of the Mysuru Bar Association boycotted court proceedings on Tuesday and staged a protest demanding the arrest of the culprits.

They said that there were neither CCTV cameras nor any security system on the court premises.
