The New Education Policy (NEP) draft report, prepared by K Kasurirangan panel, "has not recommended making any language compulsory," said Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar.

The Indian Express on Thursday reported that the NEP of the Union government suggested learning the Hindi language be made compulsory till 8th standard across the country while maintaining a three-language formula.

"The Committee on New Education Policy in its draft report has not recommended making any language compulsory. This clarification is necessitated in the wake of mischievous and misleading report in a section of the media," Javadekar tweeted.

The K Kasturirangan panel, which submitted the final draft of the NEP to the Human Resource Development ministry has also suggested the ministry to ensure a uniform syllabus nationwide for science and mathematics, reports The Indian Express.

The policy is expected to bring "India-centric" changes in the educational system. The draft, prepared by the panel headed by former ISRO chief, was mandated to prepare by December 2017. The government extended the term thrice and the deadline was over on December 31, 2018.
