BSF officer injured in Pak shelling along LoC

A Border Security Force (BSF) officer was injured in ceasefire violation by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.

Sources said that the Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of a BSF unit was injured after a shell fired from across the LoC landed on a forward post in Balnoi area of Krishna Ghati sector.

He was referred to a military hospital for advanced treatment where his condition is said to be stable.

Indian troops guarding the LoC retaliated to the unprovoked shelling by Pakistan and the border skirmishes between the two sides lasted for a brief period, officials said, adding there was no report of fresh ceasefire violation from anywhere along the LoC since then.

Border skirmishes witnessed a spurt after India's pre-emptive air strike on a Jaish-e-Mohammad terror camp in Pakistan's Balakot on February 26 following the February 14 Pulwama terror attack in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed in Pulwama district of south Kashmir.

The year 2018 witnessed the highest number of ceasefire violations 2,936 by Pakistani troops in the last 15 years along the Indo-Pak border. Indian Army has been maintaining very high alert all along the LoC following inputs that under the cover of ceasefire violations, the Pakistani troops were trying to facilitate infiltration attempts by the militants.

There is 198 km IB and over 510 km of LoC with Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir.
