Govt extends validity of motor vehicle documents in wake of Covid-19

This is the fifth such extension by the Ministry to bring relief to vehicle owners who could not go to the Regional Transport Offices due to Covid-19

The Centre on Friday announced that all motor vehicle documents, including driving licence and fitness certificate, whose validity expired from February 1, will be treated as valid till June 30.

Various documents related to Motor Vehicle Act 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989 whose validity expires from February 1, 2020, will be treated as valid till June 30, the government announced.

"To reduce inconvenience due to the following of social distancing norms during Covid-19 outbreak, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued an advisory to all state governments to further extend the validity of the documents related to Motor Vehicles Act 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989," the Ministry said.

This is the fifth such extension by the Ministry to bring relief to vehicle owners who could not go to the Regional Transport Offices due to Covid-19. However, there is no extension for the renewal of the Insurance certificate.
