Newlywed gang-raped in front of husband in Uttar Pradesh

In a shocking incident, a newly-wed was allegedly gang-raped by two youths in front of her husband in Uttar Pradesh's Agra district.

According to the police sources here, the victim, who hailed from a particular community, was on the way to her parent's home with her husband when three motorcycle-borne youths intercepted them near Jharna Nullah on Agra-Kanpur National Highway. The couple was forcibly taken at a forested area, where they were allegedly made to strip, sources said.

The youths allegedly took pictures of the couple and later two of them gang-raped the woman before looting cash and valuables from them. They threatened the couple to kill them if they reported the incident to the police.

Although the incident took place on Monday evening, the couple approached the police on Tuesday and lodged a compliant with them, sources said.

Police said that two of the three youths had been named in the complaint while the third one was unidentified. ''We have registered an FIR and are trying to nab the culprits,'' said a senior police official in Agra. Sources said that two of the culprits were known to the victim.

Later, a large number of people gathered in the Etmaddaula area in Agra and held a demonstration demanding immediate arrest of the culprits. Police said that security personnel in strength had been deployed in the area as a precautionary measure.
