A 13-year old gangrape victim was allegedly raped by an SHO inside a police station in Uttar Pradesh's Lalitpur district, when she went to him for filing an FIR.

As the incident triggered widespread outrage with the opposition leaders planning to visit the victim's family, the UP government on Wednesday suspended the entire staff of Pali police station and ordered a probe into the matter. The SHO was absconding.

According to the police sources, the minor, who had allegedly been gangraped by four youths a few days back, was brought to the police station by a woman relative of hers on the pretext of filing an FIR. She was taken by the SHO Tilakdhari Saroj to his residence inside the police station and was allegedly raped by him.

The matter came to light during counselling session at Child Line on Tuesday, sources said. The minor told the counsellors that she had been raped by the SHO at the latter's residence at Pali police station.

The incident triggered sharp condemnation from the opposition parties, which accused the Yogi Adityanath government of failing to ensure safety of the women in the state.

Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav said that he would be visiting the family of the victim in Lalitpur while Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also slammed the state government over the incident.

''The incident exposes the tall claims of the state government on improved law and order.....the true situation is being crushed under the bulldozers,'' Priyanka said in a post on Twitter.

Additional director general of UP police, law and order Prashant Kumar said that a case was registered against six people, including the SHO and the entire staff of the police station had been suspended. Three persons were so far arrested in this connection, he added.
