Uttar Pradesh Police nab lingerie thief after two youths were caught on tape

Residents suspected that the undergarments might have been stolen for the purpose of performing 'exorcism'

In a bizarre incident, two youths were caught stealing women's undergarments from a house in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut town on tape.

The police later nabbed one of the thieves and have launched a search to nab the other one.

According to the police sources here, the residents of Sadar Bazar area in the town, lodged a complaint with the cops on Sunday that two scooter-borne youths had stolen women's undergarments, which were hanging from a drying rack.

The police were also provided with the footage from a CCTV camera in which the youths were seen stealing the undergarments, sources said.

The residents suspected that the undergarments might have been stolen for the purpose of performing an 'exorcism' and demanded immediate arrests of the thieves.

Acting swiftly, the cops managed to nab one of the alleged thieves, who was a resident of Sotiganj in the town, on Monday. ''We are searching for the other one,'' said a police official in Meerut.

Police said that they were trying to ascertain as to why these youths had stolen the women's undergarments and whether they had done so in other areas also.
