Now, Bajrang Dal files FIR against Kanhaiya

More trouble seems to be brewing for the former JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar as Bajrang Dal in Bihar has lodged an attempt-to-murder case against him at Begusarai.

The FIR has been lodged by the convenor of the Bajrang Dal, Shubham Bhardwaj, at Bhagwanpur police station in Begusarai district.

The self-proclaimed Hindu activist has charged Kanhaiya and his supporters with beating and severely injuring another Bajrang Dal supporter, Sonu.

Bhardwaj claimed that the incident took place when Kanhaiya was returning home after addressing a CPI meet at Mansoorchak in Begusarai on Tuesday evening.

“Kanhaiya has been booked under Section 147, 149, 307, 504, 295 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC),” Deepak Kumar, station house officer (SHO) of Bhagwanpur, said.

He added that since it was a non-bailable offence, Kanhaiya will have to surrender, or else, the police will arrest him.

According to sources, a clash took place between the supporters of Kanhaiya and Bajrang Dal activists near a Durga Temple in which six persons sustained injuries while window panes of Kanhaiya’s cavalcade were damaged.

Later, Kanhaiya, too, lodged a counter-FIR at Barauni police station (12 km from the incident site) against Bajrang Dal men charging them with making an attempt on his life.

Kanhaiya, who is likely to be the CPI candidate while making his Lok Sabha poll debut in 2019 from Begusarai, his home town, was on Monday booked, in Patna, for creating ruckus at AIIMS.

Kanhaiya had gone to meet an ailing Sushil, an All India Students’ Federation (AISF) leader, recuperating at AIIMS-Patna after operation.

The AISF men, protesting the lodging of FIR, later said that the fracas at AIIMS broke out after some doctors used the term “anti-national” for Kanhaiya.
