JOIN USPolice in Kottayam have registered a case based on a complaint by a Catholic nun that she was sexually abused by a Bishop. The Bishop denied the allegation and said the complainant had been threatening to malign him with the charges.
The nun has alleged in her complaint filed with the Kuravilangad police that Franco Mulakkal, Bishop of the Diocese of Jalandhar, had sexually abused her multiple times at a guest house in 2014. A week before the nun made a complaint in this connection to the district police chief, the Bishop had also approached the SP with a complaint against the nun. The 54-year-old Bishop claimed that the nun who was upset with disciplinary action initiated against her was threatening to make the allegations against him.
“It was the Bishop who made the first complaint. The nun later filed a complaint that he had raped her multiple times between 2014 and 2016. An investigation in both the cases is on,” a senior police official in Kottayam told DH on Friday.
