Odisha govt announces compensation

The Odisha government on Monday announced compensation for two labourers from the state who were killed in Saturday’s Maoist attack in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh.

The labourers, residents of Bamuni village in Nowrangpur district, have been identified as Prahalad Majhi (32) and Chandra Sekhar Majhi (34). Nowrangpur district in southern Odisha borders Chhattisgarh. Official sources said labourers families will be paid Rs 2 lakh each and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has already directed the district administration to release it immediately.

“The chief minister has directed the Nowrangpur district collector to hand over the money today itself,” an official said.
