People in power can't bring about change: Bhagwat

Last Updated 16 December 2018, 18:19 IST

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday said the onus of ushering in change is on people's organisations as it cannot be achieved by those in power.

“People who yearn for change, but such is the system of governance that it ties the hands and legs of those keen on it,” Bhagwat said delivering the Dattopant Thengdi Memorial Lecture organised by the Swadeshi Jagran Manch here.

He also sounded a word of caution to his followers that a status loving leader and comfort-loving activist were harmful to any organisations.

Recalling Thengdi's contribution to building organisations such as the Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh and the Swadeshi Jagran Manch, Bhagwat underscored the role of people's organisations in ushering in change.

“If you want to usher in change, you need to create awareness in the society and strengthen people's organisations,” he said.

Bhagwat said being in government is power, but there is a necessity to control power.

“The state is all powerful. How do you control power. It works within the four corners of the Constitution. But who will guarantee that power will honour the limits of the Constitution? This has to be done by a vigilant society and people's organisations reflect its aspirations,” the RSS chief said.

He said people's organisations should stay away from politics of power.
