An army porter was killed in Pakistani firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of north Kashmir on Saturday evening, while Army claimed to have shot dead an intruder along the LoC in Poonch district of Jammu region on Sunday.

A defence spokesperson said Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire along the LoC in Keran sector on Kupwara district on Saturday evening by resorting to unprovoked firing, resulting in the death of one army porter and injuries to another.

The body of the slain porter was retrieved and handed over to his kin for last rites while the injured was evacuated to a medical facility, he said.

In a separate incident troops along the LoC in Krishnagati sector of Poonch district shot dead the intruder around 0230 hours, an Army officer said.

Meanwhile, an independent lawmaker from remote Langate constituency in Kupwara Sheikh Abdul Rasheed has asked authorities to reveal the identity of two “unknown” militants killed, in Uri area, on Friday.

In a statement, he said that “not only the killed were much elderly aged persons but burying them in the darkness of the night has given rise to some vital questions which need to be answered.”

The Army had on Friday claimed that it gunned down two militants in Uri along the LoC. However, according to reports in local media, the duo has been identified by local gravedigger and people as elderly octogenarians.
