Panchkula boy tops IIT-JEE (Advanced)

Panchkula’s Sarvesh Mehtani topped the IIT-Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) test, the results of which were announced by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, on Sunday.

Akshat Chugh from Pune came second, while Delhi’s Ananye Agarwal grabbed the third slot in the all India merit list of the entrance test.

Among the girls, Ramya Narayanasamy from Madhapur, Hyderabad, topped the exam. She, however, secured the 35th rank in the all India common merit list.

Deepak Meena from Khedly village in Rajasthan topped among those who took the JEE-Advanced under the ST category.
 
IIT Madras was the organising institute for JEE (Advanced) 2017. The nationwide test is conducted by a joint admission board for admissions to the IITs.

“A total of 1,59,540 candidates appeared in the JEE (Advanced) 2017 held on May 21. The results were declared at 10 am. Text messages were sent to all the candidates on their performance. The results were available at seven mirror sites in IITs without any interruption,” IIT Madras said in press release.

Based on the candidates’ performance, 50,455 made it to the rank list across all categories.
The gender ratio of the successful candidates stands at 43,318 boys and 7,137 girls (86% boys and 14% girls, approximately).

The category-wise successful candidates were 23,390 (General), 9,043 under OBC-NCL (Other Backward Classes-Non-Creamy Layer), 13,312 (Scheduled Caste) and 4,710 (Scheduled Tribe).
“In addition, seven candidates qualified in the foreign category. These candidates are now eligible to apply for seats in various IITs,” IIT Madras said.

Online registration for choice-filing will commence from 10 am on June 15 and end at 5 pm on June 26, the Joint Seat Allocation Authority said in a notification.

The first round of seat allotment will be held on June 28. The first round of reporting for seat acceptance will be held from June 29 to July 3, it added.
