Parliament session may be extended

Last Updated 12 August 2014, 19:31 IST

The NDA government may extend the 38-day-long Parliament session, scheduled to come to an end on Thursday, if the Congress creates hurdles in the passage of bills, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu informed a BJP parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday morning.

With a key economic reform bill on increasing the FDI cap for insurance in the balance, as the Opposition has been demanding that it be sent to a parliamentary select committee, the Narendra Modi government is trying hard to push through other legislation.

These include the National Judicial Appointments Commission Bill, the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Bill, Apprentices (Amendment) Bill, Constitution (121st Amendment) Bill and the Repealing and Amending Bill and Factories (Amendment) Bill.
