In the wake of rumours over the reported “missing” of  Union Minister for Agriculture Sharad Pawar in Madikeri, the air was cleared when the minister was spotted at a resort near Kakkabbe on Thursday night.

When Deccan Herald contacted Superintendent of Police Anucheth for clarification, he said the minister is healthy and is taking rest at a private resort near Kakkabbe.

Sharad Pawar had arrived at the resort along with his family and friends on Monday. Five families close to Pawar are holidaying in the district for a few days.

He has arrived with private security and a team of doctors. After spending three days in the resort, he participated in a programme at the Cardamom Research Centre at Appangala near here. He also visited the Horticulture Research Centre at Chettalli.

The minister who attended the programme organised at the Cardamom Research Centre asked researchers to invent new breeds of spices having the capacity to bear more yield in short duration.

“Increase in production of spices and other food grains in the country has been possible due to the efforts of the agriculture scientists and farmers. In order to improve the quality of products, the agriculture scientists along with farmers should try to invent new forms of crops,” he insisted.

The minister remarked that the country has produced agricultural products at a record quantity this year. The country has exported 10 million tonnes of  rice and 40 million tonnes of paddy.
