Assembly dissolution: PDP hints at not moving court

The PDP on Thursday hinted they were not in a mood to approach the court to challenge Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik's decision to dissolve the Assembly after they had staked a claim to form a new government in the state.

"The party has not taken any decision to challenge the decision (dissolution of Assembly) in the court. We didn't hold any formal meeting today (Thursday). No decision in this regard has been taken yet," Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief spokesman Rafi Mir told reporters.

While he termed the governor's decision as "unconstitutional", he said that now there is no option left to the political parties in the state except to prepare for elections.

Earlier, National Conference (NC) leader and former chief minister Omar Abdullah said that the decision to challenge governor's decision rests with the PDP.

"Legally, we don't have a case to make as I don't have a document on which to claim the governor ignored what we had to say. My conversation was with the PDP. It is for the PDP to decide whether it wants to take a legal recourse. I didn't provide documentary support," he told reporters in Srinagar.

People's Conference chief Sajad Lone, who had also staked claim to form the government with the help of 25 BJP MLAs and 18 unnamed legislators, hit out at PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti saying that she should go to the court and get an order to revive the Assembly.

"If @Mehbooba Mufti feels slighted y doesn't she go to court. Let her approach the court and hopefully get an order to revive the Assembly and we hopefully will prove we have the numbers, on the floor of the Assembly," Lone tweeted.
