People will make their own law: TMC minister

Last Updated 03 December 2012, 19:43 IST

Accusing the high court judges of being loyal to the CPM and the Tatas, Benchram Manna, a minister in Mamata Banerjee’s government, has said if the Supreme Court verdict on the Singur Land Act goes against the farmers, they will “grab the land and make their own law.”

“If the verdict is not in our favour, we, the people of Singur, will grab the land and show how to make law. We will have to be prepared for those days,” the minister of state for agriculture said at a rally in Singur.

Two days after Banerjee asserted that the farmers will get back their lands, Manna went a step further and claimed that the dispute will be settled by January.

Sources said Manna, who was recently appointed a minister, is trying to become the face of Singur after rebel TMC MLA from Singur, Rabindranath Bhattacahrya, resigned.

“The people of Singur have been suffering because the Tatas and the CPM, with the help of their loyal judges, have defeated us at the high court. We will not allow this to happen.”
