Plaint against collector for favouring BJP

Last Updated 10 September 2018, 18:27 IST

Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee leaders on Monday registered a complaint against Sukma District Collector Jaiprakash Maurya with Chhattisgarh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Subrat Sahoo.

Handing over the complaint to the CEO, Deputy Leader of Opposition and Konta MLA Kawasi Lakhma and former Raipur mayor Kiranmayee Nayak said the Sukma collector, in the name of election-related works and the electors' awareness drive, SVEEP, has been wooing the voters in favour of the ruling party in the state.

The Congress leaders said this could hamper the general elections in the state. They also said the collector and the district's electoral officer should be relieved from duty.

The letter also states that a complaint against Maurya was raised when Election Commissioner O P Rawat was on a visit to the state.

The letter said the collector is organising district-level SVEEP (Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation) and public problem resolving camps. It says administration camps have been kept along with election-related programmes, which it called objectionable.

Achievements of the government are presented at such events in both the local language and Hindi.

Lakhma writes that the election event is held for 5-7 minutes, while government schemes are spoken about for 2 hours.

The letter points out that BJP leaders who do not hold any function are allowed to speak at several functions.
