PM regrets Parliament logjam

Last Updated 10 December 2015, 19:25 IST

With the Congress disrupting both the Houses over the National Herald case over the past three days, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said it’s a “matter of sorrow” that Parliament was not functioning.

The PM’s dismay came six days after he had credited all parties for a smooth functioning of both the Houses.“It is not only the GST but many pro-poor steps are stuck in Parliament,” PM Modi said at a function. Owing to frequent disruptions, Parliament now has little time to take up the GST Bill which the government eyed to pass in the ongoing winter session so that it could be rolled out from 2016.

While former finance minister P Chidambaram accused the government of not reaching out to the Congress on three issues raised on the GST legislation, a senior minister said the leader might not be aware that the finance ministry had reached out to them.
