Poll strategist Prashant Kishor joins Nitish’s JD(U)

"Prashant Kishor is the future”: Nitish Kumar

Poll strategist Prashant Kishor on Sunday joined the Janata Dal (United) in the presence of party national president and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

The formal entry of Kishor into a political party took place shortly before the state executive committee meeting of the JD (U) began at CM’s official residence here. “I must tell you Prashant Kishor is the future,” remarked Nitish, shortly after his induction into the regional party.

The entry of PK, as Prashant Kishor is fondly called, into the mainstream politics was widely speculated for long. But it got credence recently when he told a gathering at Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, that he would prefer to make a foray into electoral politics rather than working for political parties/groups.

Kishor shot into fame after he worked as a poll strategist for the BJP during the 2014 parliamentary elections and later for Nitish Kumar-led grand alliance during the 2015 Bihar Assembly poll. Credited with coining popular terms and slogans like ‘Chai pe charcha’ (in 2014) and ‘Bihar mein bahaar hai, Nitishey Kumar hai’ (in 2015), Kishor worked for the Congress as well during the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. However, his campaign strategy bore little fruit as the grand old party sank like a ‘Titanic’ in the UP Assembly elections.

Son of a doctor, who stays in Bihar’s Buxar district after retirement, Kishor has studied from Patna’s Science College and later worked with a UN agency before turning into a poll strategist. Speculation is rife that he may contest the ensuing Lok Sabha election from Buxar, his hometown.

At present, the Buxar parliamentary constituency is represented by BJP’s Ashwini Choubey, who is a junior health minister in the Narendra Modi government.
