'Proof' shows Kerala DGP covering up murder

Last Updated 06 March 2015, 21:03 IST

Kerala government Chief Whip P C George on Friday came out with “evidence” to expose DGP K S Balasubramaniam’s attempts to protect controversial businessman Mohammed Nisham during investigation in a murder case.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, however, dismissed the evidence and said it did not establish that the DGP meddled with the probe. Nisham last month assaulted and ran his SUV over Chandrabose, a security guard at the residential township he lived in. Chandrabose later died.

The chief whip alleged that former DGP M N Krishnamurthy, acting as Subramaniam’s emissary, spoke with former Thrissur police commissioner Jacob Job and sought possibilities to bail Nisham out of the case. Krishnamurthy is a retired officer who is designated for a position as Special Officer in a proposed university for police science and security services.

George submitted to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala a letter with details of his allegations and a CD that contains an alleged telephonic conversation between Job and Krishnamurthy. The Chief Whip, later, shared copies of the letter and the CD with the media.

Job was suspended during the investigation over foul play allegations in the backdrop of a one-to-one meeting he had with Nisham without the presence of other investigating officers. During the telephonic conversation, Job is also heard stating that Balasubramaniam had an axe to grind with him over Job’s “non-cooperation” in settling another case.

Reports on attempts to derail investigation in the high-profile murder case have already cornered the government even as Chennithala reiterated that the probe was on the right track.
