Mortal remains of 12 CRPF jawans from Uttar Pradesh, who were martyred in Pulwama terror attack on Thursday, were consigned to flames with full state honours and amid tears and anti-Pakistan slogans on Saturday.

People, carrying tricolours, turned out in thousands to join their funeral processions, according to the reports.

UP Chief minister Yogi Adityanath had directed his ministers to visit the families of the martyred jawans and be present at their cremation.

The family of one of the martyrs, Vijay Maurya, who hailed from Deoria district, refused to cremate his body demanding the presence of Adityanath, reports said. The family relented only after senior officials intervened.

Of the 40 CRPF jawans, who were martyred in the terror attack at Pulwama in Jammu & Kashmir, 12 hailed from UP.

Adityanath announced financial assistance of Rs. 25 lakh to the family of each of the martyrs, a government job to one member of the family and other benefits.
