Raghavan is new Indian envoy to Pakistan

India has appointed a new envoy to Pakistan just a day after Nawaz Sharif took oath as the prime minister of the new Government in the neighbouring country.

New Delhi on Thursday announced the appointment of T C A Raghavan as the new high commissioner of India to Pakistan. He will succeed incumbent Sharat Sabharwal who is set to retire on June 30 next.

Raghavan, an Indian Foreign Service officer of 1982 batch, has been India’s High Commissioner to Singapore since 2009.

Vijay Thakur Singh is set to succeed Raghavan as India’s envoy to Singapore.Raghavan managed India’s relation with Pakistan earlier too, as he headed the Pakistan-Afghanistan-Iran division at the Ministry of External Affairs headquarters in New Delhi before being sent to Singapore.

He played a key role in the diplomatic offensive New Delhi launched against Islamabad in the wake of the November 26, 2011 terrorist attacks.
