Congress president Rahul Gandhi has alleged that the Narendra Modi government was trying to create a divide in the country. He also assured that if the Congress comes to power, Women’s Reservation Bill would be passed and also reiterated that the minimum wage guarantee scheme would be introduced ensuring direct payment to bank accounts of the poor.
Addressing a convention of the Congress booth level workers at Kochi in Kerala on Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi maintained an equidistant stand on the Sabarimala women entry issue. He said the Congress party respected both rights of women as well as the traditions. He accused the BJP and the ruling CPM in Kerala for creating a divide in the society on the basis of religion. Only the Congress can ensure unity in the country, he said.
It may be recalled that the Congress president initially supported the entry of women of all ages to Sabarimala Ayyappa temple, but later toned down his stand considering the view of the party leaders in Kerala who were opposed to women entry citing traditions of the Ayyappa hill shrine. This double standard was criticised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent two visits to Kerala.
Terming Narendra Mod as a ‘corrupt’, Rahul listed out various corruption charges against the Narendra Modi government and also accused him of helping only around '15 rich friends' and thereby created an economic divide. Job opportunities of hundreds of youths were lost as the Rafale deal was given to Anil Ambani by ignoring an experienced public sector undertaking. Even former Defence Minister Manohar Parikkar stated that he had no role in the deal, said Rahul.
Rahul alleged that the Modi government offered maximum income schemes for its ‘15 rich friends’. The heavy dues of the rich were forgone. But the dues of the poor farmers were ignored. Once the Congress comes to power, it would ensure that the all the suffering of the poor and middle class owing to the wrong deeds of Modi government were resolved. The GST would be also restructured.
He also mocked that while Modi used to claim that India was ahead of China, Modi himself was using Chinese made mobile phone to click selfies. The Congress, which had made many transformations in the country like computerisation, would also see that the Chinese use India or even Kerala made gadgets in future.
While Modi recently accused the Congress of raising allegations against constitutional institutions like the Election Commission, Rahul hit back recollecting the sacking of CBI director and concerns raised by Supreme Court judges. Modi wanted to ensure that no probe is done against him, Rahul alleged.
Rahul also accused that Left government in Kerala was failing in the post-flood rebuilding of the state. The government did not give any support to the people in rebuilding.
Addressing the huge gathering of party workers as a warming up for the Lok Sabha poll campaign work, Rahul reminded them to ensure proper grass root level activities to ensure the victory of Congress. Congress would also bring more women to the leadership, he said.
Rahul, who came down on a one-day visit to Kerala, also held talks with Congress leaders of the state as well as AICC general secretary in charge of Kerala Mukul Wasnik on the selection candidates and sharing of seats among the coalition partners of the Congress-led UDF in Kerala.
