Rajasthan Cong leader CP Joshi caught in controversy

Ahead of the Rajasthan assembly election, senior Congress leader CP Joshi is caught in a controversy after a video clip showed him purportedly saying that only Brahmins can talk about Hinduism.

While addressing a rally in Rajasthan’s Nathdwara on Thursday, the Congress leader is heard saying, “They say a Congressi can’t be a Hindu, who gave them the authority to issue certificates? Have they opened a university? If anyone knows about religion then its pandits and Brahmins,”

Not only BJP criticised him for saying only Brahmins can talk about Hinduism but Congress chief Rahul Gandhi also asked for an apology. In the video, Joshi questioned how Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP leader Uma Bharti could speak about Hinduism given their caste.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has also condemned Joshi's remarks and called it as Congress's policy of diving people on the basis of caste.

In the later part of the video, Joshi is also heard saying, “Sardar Patel ji was in Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s cabinet. Patel ji’s unifying India project had the support of Pandit Nehru, he never did anything without Pandit Nehru’s nod. But these people today spread misinformation that both of them did not get along.”

Rahul Gandhi reacted to Joshi's statement by writing Party leaders should not give statements which can hurt sentiments of any section. After facing criticism from multiple BJP leaders, Joshi claimed that the video was fabricated. “I strongly condemn the fabricated use of my statement by BJP,” he tweeted.

Rajasthan will go to polls on December 7. Earlier this week, the party's Madhya Pradesh chief Kamal Nath was caught on video apparently saying if Muslims didn't vote for the Congress, it is doomed.
