Raped by 40 men, victim told to leave rented house

Recuperating from the ordeal days after she was gang-raped by nearly 40 men for four days continuously, the 21-year old Chandigarh woman now finds it difficult to even walk with swelling in various parts of her body.

She said her husband has to take her to the toilet at home as she struggles with pain. The rape victim got another shocker after her landlord asked her husband to vacate the one-room rented accommodation they were living in as he was unwilling to see his place turn centre stage amidst media glare and police presence. The couple is paying a monthly rent of Rs 3000.

The rape incident evoked nationwide outrage when the victim somehow managed to reach the police station and informed the cops that everyday 9 to 10 persons took turns to rape her continuously for four days at a guest house in the Morni foothill area in Haryana near here.

The investigation now reveals that the main accused in the case, the guest house owner Sunny, made phone calls to as many as 70 persons inviting them to rape the woman.

The victim’s husband is finding it hard to meet ends. He has not been to his temporary job as a tailor ever since his wife was raped. He says he has to attend to his wife, take her to the hospital daily for treatment.

As many as 9 people have been arrested in the case so far.
