'Residences for legislators in Amaravati ready by June'

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, who reviewed the progress of his pet project Polavaram on Wednesday, much to the anger of the Election Commission and the opposition YSRCP, took up the issue of Amaravati, the capital-in-construction on Thursday.

The chief minister, who says work must continue come what may, has directed the Capital Region Development Authority and Amaravati Development Corporation (ADC) in Amaravati to keep the residential complexes meant for legislators of the state ready by the beginning of monsoon, that is mid-June.

The construction of residential complexes for the legislators, ministers and officials are at different stages of completion.

Naidu also directed the CRDA to complete the beautification of all the Seed-Access roads that are not under any litigation so that the residents of the new capital will have easy access with the national highway linking the capital to the outside world. He also wanted erection of street lights completed by the time the new government is formed.

According to CRDA commissioner Cherukuri Sridhar works at a cost of Rs 51,687 crore have been undertaken so far with Rs 19,769 crore meant for developing Trunk Infrastructure. He said work has been affected with migratory labour leaving for their home states to participate in the election process.

On Wednesday, Naidu reviewed work on the Polavaram project. He said that so far, 65.04% of the construction has been completed in the project. He ordered officials to complete the construction works of the dam by end of April.

YSRCP complains to EC

Meanwhile, YSRCP said that Naidu, as only a caretaker CM, could not take any major decisions till the new government was formed. It is said that Naidu dropped the idea of reviewing the law and order situation in the state after the EC showed the rule position.

The YSRCP also submitted a memorandum to Chief Electoral Officer Gopalakrishna Dwivedi in Amaravati seeking action against the chief minister. “The Code of Conduct will be in place till the results are announced on May 23. Till then, he cannot take any policy decisions,” YSRCP argued.
