RSS like Taliban and Khalistanis: CPM on Sabarimala

Last Updated 17 December 2018, 18:12 IST

CPM Polit Bureau member S Ramachandran Pillai on Wednesday said the RSS is trying to create trouble in Sabarimala and sought to liken the Sangh fountainhead to Taliban and Khalistan terrorists.

Pillai's remarks came as CPI(M)-led government in Kerala is facing a backlash from Hindutva organisations in Kerala over the attempts to implement Supreme Court judgement allowing women in the age group of 10 to 50 years to enter Sabarimala.

"They (RSS) are behaving like Taliban and Khalistan terrorists. Why are they trying to create trouble in Sabarimala? They should allow everything to be peaceful, they’re not doing it," Pillai said.

The temple had reopened last week for the pilgrim season under heavy police presence amid protests by those opposing the entry of menstruating women in the temple citing customs and beliefs.

The Travancore Devaswom Board, which manages the affairs of Sabarimala temple, has approached Supreme Court seeking more time to implement the order.

Recently, a video clip of BJP Kerala chief P Sridharan Pillai was doing rounds in which he purportedly said the Sabarimala issue was a "golden opportunity" for his party.

Congress in Kerala has opposed the Supreme Court verdict though party chief Rahul Gandhi has said that he has another view on the issue.
