SC allows woman to go with parents

The Supreme Court on Monday allowed a 23-year-old Jain woman from Chhattisgarh to go with her parents instead of her husband, who had reportedly relinquished Islam and converted to Hinduism to marry her.

A bench presided over by Chief Justice Dipak Misra interacted with the woman after sending her parents out of the courtroom and concluded, "As she is a major, she is entitled to take her decision as to where she wants to go."

The Chhattisgarh Police produced the woman before the court on a plea by her husband, Mohd Ibrahim Siddhiqui aka Aryan Arya.

Responding to the court's queries, the woman said she was a major, she has not been coerced by anyone to take this decision.

Though she married Mohd Ibrahim Siddhiqui alias Aryan Arya, she wanted to live with her parents voluntarily, she said.

The court said it would not get into the legality and validity of the marriage, as it would be dealt with by the competent courts.
