SC dismisses PIL for probe into Pulwama attack

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a PIL seeking a direction to the Union government to constitute a commission headed by a retired top court Judge along with the army, intelligence and local administration, to conduct an enquiry in the Uri and Pulwama attacks.

"We are not inclined to entertain the petition," a bench presided over by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi told advocate J P Dhanda, who contended that the role of local people, stone pelters and Hurriyat leaders must be investigated.

Dhanda's petition sought an enquiry to find out lapses at the local level and also the role played by Indian nationals in helping terrorists from Pakistan in executing the attacks.

He also sought details of action taken against separatists so far. The PIL sought directions for the freezing of bank accounts of separatists. It contended that the separatists should be banned from contesting polls.
