SC to hear on Jun 27 plea by disqualified AIADMK MLAs

The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear on June 27 a plea by 17 out of 18 disqualified MLAs of AIADMK for transfer of their petition challenging their disqualification from Madras High Court to the apex court, reports DHNS from New Delhi.

A vacation bench of Justices Arun Mishra and Sanjay Kishan Kaul directed listing the matter for Wednesday as senior advocate Vikas Singh and advocate Amit Anand Tiwari, appearing for the disqualified MLAs, said it is a serious issue which required an urgent hearing.

The counsel pointed out the high court's division bench had given a split verdict on June 14 and the third judge is scheduled to hear the matter afresh.

"This would further delay the holding of fresh elections to the Assembly seats," Singh said while alleging that many people had got to know through WhatsApp messages about the third judge who will be hearing the case after the split verdict, even before his name was announced.

Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal had on September 18 last year disqualified the 18 MLAs owing allegiance to sidelined party leader T T V Dhinakaran on the ground that they had tried to pull down the AIADMK government in the state.
