SC moved over contemptuous remarks against judiciary

Last Updated 28 April 2018, 15:57 IST

The Supreme Court has agreed to consider a lawyer plea seeking directions to frame guidelines for advocates, charging that some of his colleagues and politicians made contemptuous remarks against the judiciary on social media and news channels.

A three-judge bench presided over by Chief Justice Dipak Misra posted the petition filed by advocate Gaurav Bhatia, also a BJP spokesperson, for hearing on May 1.

“The issue raised in the petition has great ramifications and impact on the judicial system of our country as the faith in the administration of justice is one of the pillars on which democratic institution functions and sustains,” he said.

Even senior lawyers made contemptuous public statements about the judiciary and the court should take judicial note of these remarks, he said.
