Search on to nab IGI operative with fake police verification

The Home Ministry was forced to react after it found an employee of a private company–with its corporate office in Bangalore–with an Airport Entry Pass (AEP) to the Indira Gandhi International Airport obtained through fake police verification documents.

The accused has been identified as Viran Ram, a resident of south west Delhi’s Dwarka who was employed with AVON Facility Management as an “operative”.  According to sources, fake police verification documents were submitted to obtain the AEP from the office of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS).

Entry of people, including employees, to the airport is regulated by BCAS, which is the regulatory authority for civil aviation security in the country.

“Union Home Ministry found out about the fake documents, after which BCAS was informed. Upon getting receipt of the information, BCAS immediately issued order for cancellation and seized Viran’s AEP,” sources said.

The BCAS has re-scrutinised the AEP application and documents. They approached the Delhi Police to file a case after the office of Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) Suman Goyal confirmed that their office did not issue any police clearance certificate in Viran’s name.

For the probe by Goyal’s office, BCAS had provided a copy of the police verification documents dated October 25, 2013, and Viran’s application. The documents were claimed to have been issued by Goyal’s office. However, on March 14, Goyal’s office confirmed the documents were fake.

A case under sections 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the Indian Penal Code has been filed with Indira Gandhi International Airport police station. “Investigation in the case has been completed and we have enough evidence against Viran. He is likely to be arrested soon,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport) M I Haider.
